GORGO #17 February 1964

DITKO MONSTERS VOLUME 1: GORGO published by IDW and YOE!BOOKS, edited, assembled, and essays by Craig Yoe hits the stand this week! Expect a full review of this 200+ page hardbound book to grace this blog soon (just waiting on my copy to arrive in the mail!).

In the meantime, let's take a look at the issue immediately following Ditko's departure from the series, number 17.
To say there was a drastic change in the art dynamics would be an understatement. The fluid, spry, and yes, even playful, way Ditko approached the book is replaced by a more straight forward, standard pace by Bill Montes and Ernie Bach. While I wouldn't say they handled the book with less aplomb, it certainly set a very different mood and altogether look than the previous incarnation.
Over the course of the next week, I'll be posting the rest of the final issues, concluding with the series ending #23.

Yoe's hardbound book can be ordered HERE.
