Ditko turns 86: an overview in covers

Steve Ditko turns 86 today. If you are a regular reader of this blog, or of comic books in general for that matter, then I don't have to explain who Ditko is or his importance and (continuing!) contributions to the comic art form.
Rather, I thought it would be fun to show an overview of his work at Charlton, featuring an issue from each of his titles that his atwork graced a cover. Enjoy.

  1. Belated birthday wishes to Mr.Ditko.

His work at Charlton is to my mind his best material. I know Spider-Man lovers will want my head, but I think his style was fully mature when he arrived at Charlton after his Spidey run and his work in the next four or five years remain the top. It had a commanding muscularity both his earlier and his later stuff loses.

It's nice to see his covers for the company (produced over decades) get some worthy attention.

  2. I agree. While many prefer the more detailed art of his 50's and early 60's work, I feel his post Marvel 60's work up through around 1975-ish was his Ditko at his best.

  3. There's a rich variety here, well represented by your choices, Fester. I appreciate you took the time to do this.

With Ditko, I always enjoy when he delivers his great drawing style combined with his innovative and imaginative design skills. THE MANY GHOSTS OF DR. GRAVES and THIS MAGAZINE IS HAUNTED covers really sing!
